Prayers From the Mouth of a Child

I did not grow up in a family or church where children were taught to pray spontaneous prayers from their hearts to God. I was not aware that it was possible to have a conversation with God, believing that He would actually hear me, and even speak to me in return!

Despite this circumstance, I am thankful that my family prayed simple, memorized prayers at the table, like: “Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest, and let Thy gifts to us be blessed”; and bedtime prayers, such as,”Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep.” We also prayed rote prayers in our hymnal in church, and recited the “Lord’s Prayer” every Sunday. I am thankful, because these prayers from my childhood convinced me that prayer was an expected part of my Christianity, and paved the way for my future prayer-life, as time went on. [Read more…]

Out of the Mouth of Babes: A Trumpet in the Sky

I can still see her scampering along the beach, the wind blowing her strawberry-blonde hair, her laughing face held aloft, as if she and the breeze are racing. She is about 3 1/2 years old, and the magical scene I am describing is as vivid and captivating as it was in reality, so many years ago. The little girl is my granddaughter, Hannah. It appears as if the Lord has ignited the memory-screen in my mind, and here I am witnessing this animated scene once again.

Whenever I think of Hannah as a little girl, I remember her joyful, care-free spirit even at such a young age. I see this happy little girl, as she is following her heart along the lakeshore of her home in northern Minnesota.

Out the Mouths of Babes…

When my grandson, Gabriel, was about three years old, we went to a playground at a park on a glorious spring day.  He loved to be pushed on the swing, and his nimble body appeared to be flying with the wind, as he soared into the bright blue sky.  Although this golden moment happened almost 26 years ago, it is captured as an indelible picture in my mind.  His head was thrown back, his white-blond dutch-boy haircut was flowing behind him in ripples, and his feet were pointing upward to the sun.  [Read more…]

Are you familiar with the expression, “Out of the Mouths of Babes.”? I have read many books in my lifetime, and heard countless sermons on the deep things of God, and yet I consider some of the words that have come out of the mouths of children to be the most valuable and enduring wisdom of all! Christ of the Covenant

mangerScene2-by-sue-kemnitz1

I contemplate the Son of God, in His nativity;

                His face of light that radiates through all eternity.

How can I comprehend His worth as God-man sent to earth;

                 appointed as the covenant from this momentous birth? [Read more…]

Capturing My Child’s Heart

Whenever I have been a guest in a home, for three or four days, with two or more siblings in the home, I have, on occasion, realized that something was missing.

On these rare occasions, I am struck by the fact that bickering, crying, and complaining about one another is almost non-existent in the home. Brothers and sisters are actually having fun, and engaging in activities together with joy and laughter. The children are obedient, and have willing and happy hearts to help their parents accomplish their respective tasks, with no hint of rebellion or reluctance.

At first it almost seems unreal. Seriously? Most people would be skeptical that this lifestyle could be sustained as a normal way of life, while raising their children. Yet I can vouch for the fact that families like this do exist and are absolutely authentic! [Read more…]

Unwrapping Our Gifts

Most Christians believe that they were born with a purpose and have a call upon their lives. I believe that God not only created each one of us with a purpose, He created each family with a purpose too. It is exciting to realize that when we marry our spouses, it is the start of something big, setting into motion a divine plan that will be accomplished through our families.

God’s Purpose for your Family

FullSizeRenderOne of the most life-changing revelations I have received in my walk with the Lord came to me through Psalm 139 many years ago. When I read the words that God had formed my inward parts and woven me in my mother’s womb; that His eyes had seen my unformed substance, when I was made in secret, I reacted like the Psalmist did when he wrote in verse 6, “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is too high, I cannot attain to it!” The most powerful truth that hit me at the time, and has never left me, is that the Lord has a book “in which are written the days that are ordained for me, before one of them came to be.” (Verse 16)

Papa Claussen’s Testimony

Testimonies can be interesting or boring.  They are interesting for the person writing one, but may be boring for the hearer or reader, as the case may be.  I believe that if the testimony increases the hearer or reader’s relationship with Father God, it won’t be boring.  If it’s “all about me”, it’s a boring failure. A Psalm of Praise

As I approach my 75th birthday, and ponder the days of my life, I am awed by the incredible love and faithfulness of my heavenly Father.   His hand of protection and guidance from conception to this very day has been nothing short of miraculous!  I have no idea where I would be or who I would be if it weren’t for Him.  In fact, I don’t even know if I would be alive, because I remember a time when I despaired of even life itself.  This verse from Psalm 103:17 unfurls like a banner over the years, “Your endless love stretches from one eternity to the other, unbroken and unrelenting—“ [Read more…]
