It’s Time to Look Up!

Somedays are better than others.  I don’t know why, but it sure seems to be true.  I’ve never known life to be boring, but it sure has been happy, sad, confusing, terrifying, repetitive, and overwhelming, and sometimes all at the same time.  The best part about it is that God is unchanging.  That is so funny to me though, because I am made in His image.  I look a lot like Him!  I think that is spectacular don’t you?  Me feeling so changeable, and yet I’m made in the very image of the unchanging One!  That just gives me hope! Papa has a Purpose for You!

I woke up with some words that the Lord had spoken to me. He gave me a list.

  1. Purpose
  2. Plan
  3. Position
  4. Promise
  5. Proposition

I always pay close attention when this happens, because I know He has something important to say to me. This is His encouraging word for all of us.

This is to all of us…His Dearly Beloved. [Read more…]

Prayers From the Mouth of a Child

I did not grow up in a family or church where children were taught to pray spontaneous prayers from their hearts to God. I was not aware that it was possible to have a conversation with God, believing that He would actually hear me, and even speak to me in return!

Despite this circumstance, I am thankful that my family prayed simple, memorized prayers at the table, like: “Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest, and let Thy gifts to us be blessed”; and bedtime prayers, such as,”Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep.” We also prayed rote prayers in our hymnal in church, and recited the “Lord’s Prayer” every Sunday. I am thankful, because these prayers from my childhood convinced me that prayer was an expected part of my Christianity, and paved the way for my future prayer-life, as time went on. [Read more…]

Putting our trust in God is not a risk, it is a guarantee!

Trust can be one of the hardest things in life to accomplish.  Trusting others is hard, but trusting God, strangely enough, can be even more so.  Sometimes placing all my trust in God, who knows the end from the beginning, can be a lot harder that trusting myself to figure it all out.

The Bible says to put your trust in God and He will give you the desires of your heart.  So often we think that we can get the desires of our heart without actually having to trust God.  All this does is place our trust in our own ability and intellectual capacity rather than placing our trust in the wisest being of all time.

Trust is not something, however that we can just muster up and fake; trust has to be something that comes from the very core of our being.

We can’t halfheartedly trust God. [Read more…]

The Fragrance of Jesus

We are the carriers of the fragrance of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

When we have been impacted by the Holy Spirit, and we walk in worship, there is a fragrance given off as we move from place to place…as if the atmosphere around us is stirred…freshened.

It is noticeable.

People may not be able to identify it, but they will sense it…feel it. His presence emanating from you can cause dark thoughts to begin to experience light, sadness begins a journey to joy, irritation begins to become peaceful, stubbornness can relax, repentance flows , and reconciliation can begin.

All of this can happen because we have been with Jesus. [Read more…]

Surprised by the Rock

blog-rock-of-agesOne Sunday morning while corporately praying before the service, I kept hearing Holy Spirit say, “Read the words to the old song ‘Rock of Ages’”.   I hesitated to respond because we were praying about the miracle of Christmas and for the message that Pastor Mike was to deliver.  I said to Holy Spirit, “What does that have to do with Christmas?”

I clearly heard “I AM The Rock!”

Emma’s Journey

world-and-compass_zk9afyhu

Each person’s journey looks different and our processes are unique.

This last year a lot has happened in my life.  I graduated from college several years early, moved across the country to Redding, California, and began a school of ministry.  God has given me vision for my life, but I have no idea how I am going to get there, when it will come about, the details of what I need to do, or why God chose me.  I am excited for the journey God is taking me on, but I am unsure about so many things.  [Read more…]

Unexpected Storm

We don’t always see the storm coming.  Everything is fine one minute and then…there it is.  That’s how a storm started for me recently.  Let me tell you the story. [Read more…]

Out of the Mouth of Babes: A Trumpet in the Sky

cloudy-sky_gjqtyiou

I can still see her scampering along the beach, the wind blowing her strawberry-blonde hair, her laughing face held aloft, as if she and the breeze are racing. She is about 3 1/2 years old, and the magical scene I am describing is as vivid and captivating as it was in reality, so many years ago. The little girl is my granddaughter, Hannah. It appears as if the Lord has ignited the memory-screen in my mind, and here I am witnessing this animated scene once again.

Whenever I think of Hannah as a little girl, I remember her joyful, care-free spirit even at such a young age. I see this happy little girl, as she is following her heart along the lakeshore of her home in northern Minnesota.

My Journey into Papa’s Love

photo 2

Larry and I were married at a very young age. We had both grown up in the church and received Jesus as our Savior at an early age. We spent 6 years in college and graduate school before Larry took a job at 3M and we landed in St. Paul in 1969. We had wanted to start our family, but after 3 years of trying, we had been told by doctors that we would not be able to have children. However, not too long after that I got pregnant with our son Jeffrey, who was born after 8 years of marriage. Words cannot explain the delicious joy that accompanied his birth. We had already applied for adoption, so we thought we would just ask for a girl and our family would be complete. Little did we know that God had another plan, and our dear, precious Amy was born 22 months later. [Read more…]
